In a recent speech, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood explained that he would like to see universities in the country sending out job creators instead of job seekers.
According to him, it is vital for Pakistan’s prosperity that university educated people create new work opportunities, rather than seeking already available ones.
In his speech, Mr. Mehmood further accentuated to universities that their curriculums and teachings should reflect the country’s need for individuals with the capability to create work opportunities, thus creating an educated majority, which will boost the economy in Pakistan.
What are the Ministers doing?
To aid universities in their mission to educate motivated young entrepreneurs, Minister Mehmood and his colleagues have been working on informational manuals.
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) guides will be made available to schools around Pakistan so that the quality of education throughout the whole country improves in the levels preceding higher education.
According to the rector of the COMSATS University in Islamabad, Professor Raheel Qamar, these efforts on the government’s part are an essential step of the process of improving higher education in Pakistan. He also added that Minister Mehmood and his colleagues could further assist higher education by providing more funding for student-owned start-up companies and projects.
For Mr. Qamar, it is vital that there is a balance in the support for both liberal subjects and ones focused on technology.
In addition, Minister Mehmood has reasonably explained that the recent rise in taxes for education was necessary so that the state can provide efficient support for the educational system.
