Hello. A friend of mine ( a woman ) asked me to help her with her essay.
I checked it but I'd like to give her an essay without any mistakes.
It's a little long but I hope someone will correct this essay.
How many times have you put on a kimono this year?
Sometimes forigners come to my house to do a homestay. Most of the wemen say
"I'd like to put on a kimono."
The other day, when I was walking in a kimono, suddenly I was surrounded by some
foreign tourists. A few curious bystanders were looking at us as if I were a
big star like Brad pitt. But when they noticed that I was only an ordinary middle-
aged woman, they walked away. Even though many people in the world know kimono,
how many Japanese wear kimono these days?
Lsst week I had an opportunity to meet a workman who weaves Nishizin obi.
He said that the average age of obi workmen is about sixty years old and
he has few susccessors.
He added that demand for kimonos is decreasing.
Could you imagine a scene in which Kimonos are only seen at a museum and
women don't wear kimonos any longer? As a matter of fact, it already happened
in some way. I heard a kind of Ooshimatumugi has already vanished because
there are no successors. Even if you want to wear it, you can't get it any more.
His kimono shop has been passed down from generation to generation for approximately
400 years. He murmured he can never put an end to this history.
This summer I saw a lot of young ladies who wore yukatas.
Some of them wore the traditional yukatas and added colorful western ribbons
and wore sandals instead of geta, which is Japanese traditional shoes.
I don't think wearing yukata in this way is bad. I guess our toraditional culture
is changeing along with the times. I've seen a pop singer wearing a half-
length kimono with boots. Still I believe the core of kimono never changes.
What do you think a kimono's good point is? It's quite different from the western
clothes. Generally, Western clothes are dressed up for the front.
It means her body line is enphasaized. Whereas a kimono hides their body lines
and a kimono is characterized by the back style. What marvelous clothes they are!
If you see a lady wearing a kimono, please have a look at her from back.
I'm sure you'll think she looks beautiful. But sometimes when you go around the front,
it might happen the woman is quite unlike a beautiful lady you imagine. Right?
There is a phrase "tansu no koyasi" in Japanese. It means many kimonos are left laid
in a wardrobe without being worn. Why don't you pull them out? Wearing a kimono is
linked to the succession of kimono culture for the next generation.
And it will trigger the kimono industrial restoration. Why don't you pull kimonos
out of the wardrobe this evening?
