Wording for graduation announcement

My dad and I had a discussion about my sons graduation announcement. Which of these is correct?

We are very proud to announce that

Thursday, May 26th, 2011





Justin Kyle Kossmann

“Kosmo”





has graduated from

Mountain View High School

Mesa, Arizona

Or

We are very proud to announce that

on

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

It has been a very LONG and bumpy road to get to this point and I want to have it correct. I thought my wording was fine but my dad said that it was not correct and better another way. Please tell me which of these is corrrectly worded!!

Use the "on."

But do NOT use "has graduated" -- you don't use the present perfect (has graduated) with a specific date. Use "graduated."

And put his nickname in his name: Justin Kyle "Kosmo" Kossman

Congratuations to the graduate.
