When I feel sleepy but would like to stay awake, I will take a shower.
When I call your name, you answer me!
When I think of you, I will look at the photo of you.
When he looks at me, I feel like melting.
My question is when is 'will' needed in a sentence? I was told that 'will' and 'would' indicate habitual actions but at the same time, sentences without 'will' can also be habitual (e.g. When I am free, I read books.)

When I feel sleepy but would like to stay awake, I will take a shower. => habitual type. Obmitting 'will' will only change the meaning slightly becoming something I do all the time or always.
When I call your name, you [will] answer me!
