I'm working (or not working, as it happens) on a rant.
We're writing a light little domestic comedy and one of the scenes involves a husband who's hooked on the History Channel and his wife, hoping to rekindle a common bond, tries to get him to snuggle up and watch "The Sound of Music" with her. "They're both about World War II!" is one of her arguments.
When my writing partner and I were working out the story, I was on a roll. If I'd had a tape recorder with me at the time, this post would be unnecessary. But I can't remember what I said and now I have to recreate it. All I have is shreds. "It's demeaning to the war! It turns the Nazis into a chorus line! 'Schnitzel with kittens and boxes with mittens!' It's like a bus-and-truck production of 'Hair' starring the Manson Family! It doesn't need an intermission, it needs a break for insulin shots!..." Oh, well, it seemed funny at the time. This is precisely the kind of situation in which I used to be able to call up Brick and take notes. Alas, I fear that mis-writing-moderated-screenplays suffers from severe curmudgeon-deficiency anemia. Prove me wrong. Tell me why you hate "The Sound of Music."
