Why "do we" sometimes place a comma before verbs in the 'progressive tense'?
The examples below are all articles I've read on the internet from different news-providers (both English and American).
Examples:
1) I went down the river, seeking for information.
2) The Scot potted 15 reds with blacks and cleared the colours, holding his nerve to slot home a difficult pink then clipping in the black.
3) It's the seventh maximum of the season, following one from O'Sullivan.
Is there a generel rule applying for verbs ending in -ing when we're speaking about the comma?
