What's the use of "down" in "walking down the street"?
Hi, sorry if this is a dumb question. English is not my native language and I was wondering why when someone wants to say "I am walking down the street", he have to use "down". What's the purpose of "down" in that sentence?
If I write "I am walking the street", it would be another meaning?
