What's the meaning of "drop" in this sentence?
Hi guys,
Can someone please tell me what the meaning of the word drop in the following sentence is?
"After the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and US entry into the war, the US State Department had promoted a "drop copy" program whereby the cable companies held up message transmissions long enough to copy them, ostensibly for the US Office of Wartime Censorship."
I've tried some dictionaries but there're too many meanings listed, and I'm just too overwhelmed with them to pick any.

I think it is just occupational slang of the time, and I suggest that you take your definition (as I do) from the subsequent text: "drop copy" = hold up message transmissions long enough to copy them
