There are hundreds of answers. Only the person who experienced the delay in receiving the items can say why contact was not made earlier.

Various personal problems may have contributed — death in the family, illness, hospitalization, marriage, a move to a different address, a change of job — or just plain forgetting that the order had been made.

I must say it's a strange question to be asked in the first place.
