Can we attempt it as follows:-
(a) Carol claimed, "Mary said that Sally wasn't herself when she called David a toad."
(b) Carol claimed that Mary said, "Sally wasn't herself when she called David a toad."
(c) Carol claimed that Mary said that Sally wasn't herself when she called David, "A toad".
(d) Carol claimed, "Mary said, 'Sally wasn't herself when she called David a toad'."
Can we attempt it as follows:-
(a) Carol claimed, "Mary said that Sally wasn't herself when she called David a toad."
(b) Carol claimed that Mary said, "Sally wasn't herself when she called David a toad."
(c) Carol claimed that Mary said that Sally wasn't herself when she called David, "A toad".
(d) Carol claimed, "Mary said, 'Sally wasn't herself when she called David a toad'."
