Here are the biggest challenges people face when learning English:

1. Words that are spelled the same but sound different

English has a lot of words called homographs. They look identical on paper, but their pronunciation changes depending on how they are used.

Read (present tense, sounds like reed) vs. Read (past tense, sounds like red).

Live (to reside, sounds like liv) vs. Live (a broadcast, sounds like lyve).

Wind (the air moving outside) vs. Wind (to twist a clock or a string).

2. Silent letters and strange spelling rules

In many languages, you spell words exactly how they sound. English does not do this. It is full of silent letters that you have to memorize.
