what can I use instead of " examine " in the following note?

The teacher pauses to think about what happened and may try to fix the situation. It is worth mentioning that here there is a quick pause for thought. The teacher scrutinizes carefully what they might need to do or evaluates" what has been accomplished" . can I say " evaluates" what has been accomplished"?
