They have essentially the same meaning. Both are fine. PERHAPS I would tend to use 'well-mannered' for a permanent quality and 'polite' for particular instances.

They have essentially the same meaning. Both are fine. PERHAPS I would tend to use 'well-mannered' for a permanent quality and 'polite' for particular instances. I think that politeness is a subset of good manners, which might include other genteel habits.

They both mean the same, but as far as I'm concerned, the latter is used more often.
