was and am
what is the difference between I was planning to go and I am planning to go? I thought I was -- past tense which means I was planning to go but change plan?? I am planning to go which means present tense -- still plan to go.. can you help?

Actually, I think the change-of-plan-in-the-past would be better expressed as: I had planned to go... The present is as you have indicated. However, there can be a mixed use.
