The Globe & Mail recently had a headline that read "Dog DNA Provides aclue to the Warp & Woof of LIfe."
I'm familiar with the term "warp" to refer to thread and "woof" obviously is a dog pun , but what does "warp and woof" mean?

The woof is wove, just as it's weffed when it's a weft. It's the bit that weaves, unlike the warp, which just stands there. Leave and left; cleave and cleft; even rive and rift (etc).
