Verbal Visual Essay: The Tent Peg
The Tent Peg, for those who have not read it is a novel that take place in the north of Canada on a mining camp. This camp has 9 males and 1 female, J.L. (much like the Bible's Jael). Weird 'magical' stuff happens, in the end they find gold lala.
I have to create a verbal visual essay on SOMETHING from this novel. After talking with my teacher about how I don't know what I want to explore in the novel because I didn't feel like I connected with it, I decided to talk about what I don't connect with itself, J.L. This is my thesis.
Aritha van Herk’s novel, the Tent Peg, left me to realize we all are J.L. through my negative relationship with that character because she couldn’t acknowledge or cope with her fundamental obsession with Deborah, the conceited feel to her chapters and lack of realism in her character.
What on earth can do for a visual aspect? At first I was thinking about maybe doing something with a mirror and how really we all are J.L. in the end. Do you think this could be effective?
