Vendetta

Hi
Can I use the american-italian slang term "vendetta" for matters of personal revenge? Or does it indicate just a war between mafia gangs (groups of people)?
Example:"He didn't hand me all the dough and I had to burn down his house. That was my vendetta."
Basically, I'd like to know if it would sound natural as a synonym of "revenge".

Ok I get it it can't refer to a single act towards a single person. I guess "revenge" would be more appropriated then.

Hi

You can use the word in a metaphorical and quite trivial way:

- I rejected his proposal at the meeting so now we don't go for coffee anymore - a sort of vendetta thing

Personally, I'd keep the word for it's stronger sense: where there is the threat of physical violence

Use of that word is not limited to Americans. Other English speakers also use it.
