Using "though"

Question

Hello all,i have a sentence taken from an essay,"though different in the form and evolution, they are usually considered to be two different schools."i know that though is one of adverbial clauses of contrast, but it seems there is no contrast in given sentence above. or maybe am i completely wrong? I am appreciated for any help. Thanks in advance.

I agree with you. I'd expect the sentence either to be:

'different in the form and evolution, they are usually considered to be two different schools' (i.e. they are different and different)

or:

'though different in the form and evolution, they are not usually considered to be two different schools' or 'they are usually considered to be the same school' (i.e. they different but the same, so taking 'though')

Maybe something before or after this sentence would help explain it? Or maybe it's just a mistake (most likely, leaving out the word 'not').

as a kind of trend of thoughts, socialist feminism went through two stages, which demonstrated themselves in the form of two schools in theory, with the former as marxist feminism and the latter socialist feminism.-------- though different in the form and evolution, they are usually considered to be two different schools.--------- they were both under the influence of marxism, employing marxist terms and analytical methods to explore women problems of contemporary capitalist countries. in their view, efforts should be made to combine feminism with socialism, and seek ways for women's liberation in the hope of socialism.

now i gave complete paragraph above, maybe now, it helps being explained.

I see - as the paragraph goes on to say that the two schools were both under the influence of Marxism and had similarities, maybe what the writer wanted to say is: "though similar in form and evolution".

The essay doesn't read like it was written by a native speaker (or if it was, it wasn't sub-edited properly), so I wouldn't use it as a source for good grammar.
