Usage of comma and other errors
How do I revise the following sentence?
There sat the unfortunate miller’s daughter, and for the life of her did not know what to do.
Please explain.

eg There sat the unfortunate miller’s daughter, and for the life of her she did not know what to do.
The comma is optional. A comma (ie a pause) adds a little emphasis to what comes after it.
As written, it means the miller was unfortunate. Or do you mean the daughter was unfortunate?
