If CLICK is a transitive verb, why do we say "click ON icon" where ON is a preposition?

Sandeep Dhamija If CLICK is a transitive verb ... It can be used transitively or intransitively. In the case of "Click on the icon", an intransitive use, I suppose you could say that the implied structure contains an object, the paraphrase being Click the appropriate button on your mouse when you are positioned on the icon.
