Which of these sentences correct:

1-I am careful not to make mistakes and generally manage to do so.
2-I try not to make mistakes and generally manage to do so.

3-I am careful not to make mistakes and generally manage not to do so.
4-I try not to make mistakes and generally manage not to do so.

...........not to make them. = .............not to do so.

3 & 4 would be natural.

1 & 2 would have the opposite meaning, and actually sound like a joke.

I realise where it comes from, but do not understand why it is at the bottom. Who wrote it is obvious anyway.

People usually write their signature at the bottom of a letter.

This practice mimics that. You will notice that many people who post on forums add their "signature" at the end like this. You can do it too with JB.
