To die for is polite?

We were studying some restaurant expressions and somebody asked me if "to die for' is a descent expression.

A server said "Our chocolate lave cake is to die for." (It sounds ok to me.)

I know what that means and it has nothing to do with 'death', but I have to make sure before I give her an answer.

It means that the cake is so good that people are willing to die to get some of it.
