There were no/ Ther were not any
Hello,
Would you help me with a gramatical question please. I have been asked to change
"There were not any NOUN. . . . . . "
to
"There were no NOUN.. . . . "
on a report I am writing and it does not sound right to me to say "were no" instead of "were not any".
I appreciate your help.

Both are correct. "Not any" is more casual; "were/was no" is more formal.
