Mothballed = put into long-term storage; put on the back burner; action is suspended, but may be resumed In temperate climates, where temperatures are vastly different in summer and winter, we put our winter clothes into storage during the summer. There are professional services which deal with expensive furs (cold storage), but at home we worry about the moths having a feast on our woolens. So we use lots of mothballs in our special storage areas (paradichlorbenzene) I have no idea if that's spelled correctly.
