the verb "translate"
Hi ! If you could help me please?
Is it possible to say? "Akademgorodok also translates into English as Academic town"? I usually see that this verb is used in the Passive voice.
According to the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary:
translate 2 [intransitive]
to be changed from one language to another
Most poetry does not translate well.
translate as something The Welsh name translates as ‘Land's End’.
(also seems that this verb is used as intransitive in "as-constructions" rather than followed by "into"..)
As far as I understand this verb can used as intransitive, but in this case "into English" is not possible here, as it makes it trabsitive.
