The usage of "to a degree"

"The people in the next room sang hymns all day to a degree that it became unbearable for me."

I was wondering if I used the phrase "to a degree" right in the above sentence. If not, I would appriciate a correction.

Also I want to know if I can subsitute "to such an extent" for "to a degree" in the sentence.
