The third conditional

Hello,

normally when we are taught 'conditional sentences' we learn this pattern for the third conditional:

If + past perfect, I would + have + past participle

If I had known that, I wouldn't have bought it.

But is this sentence ok:

If it hadn't been raining, we would have gone out.

Can't we say:

If it hadn't rained, we would have gone out.

If the driver hadn't been drinking, the accident wouldn't have taken place.

Is that incorrect:

If the driver hadn't drunk, the accident wouldn't have taken place.
