The Rectory Rolls
Hi
The author in the text mentions some Rolls a few times. I guess it is some vehicle, but I'm not sure, so I'm asking.
A young lady wants to get to a village and she's waiting at the bus stop.
One guy asks her where she's going and she replies.
Then he says:
Canon Thorby’s owd Rolls? Punctual as Big Ben as a rule.Must hev broke down at last. (So I conclude that these Rolls are late)
The guy offers her a lift and says:
Well, look, s’pose I take you out there.
There’s only the one road, and if we meet the Rolls, you
can change over.And if I take you the whole way – fourteen
miles, that is – I ’on’t hurt you. I’d do it for fifteen bob.
(So again the Rolls are mentioned)
Some time later probably the same guy who's giving her a lift now says:
Don’t get calls to Walwyk. The Rectory Rolls is at everybody’s beck and call. But two, three year
ago Mrs Westleton’s car let her down and I drove her home.
So, do you have an idea what these Rolls are? A bus maybe?
