The prepositional adverb used as adjectives
The following are of my own making.
1. Tom went to the table, ate a apple on.
2. Ill-natured Tom scratched with a nail a car ahead.
I'd like to know if prepositional adverbs can used as adjectives as in my examples.

"a car ahead" is a noun phrase which can be arguably described as having its head "a car" postmodified by the adverb "ahead" (?), or adjective "ahead".
