The Italian Academy
I know my question is a bit out of place here, but I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what the Italian Academy is called. In France, there is an Academie francaise, in Spain, the Academia Real Espanola. But what about the Italian one? Thank you very much.

Hi, Well, I googled a bit and found there are a lot of language academies, seemingly private. Are you sure there is an 'official' one for the Italian language? Not every country has such a thing.

I suppose you are referring to" Accademia della Crusca", where "crusca" is "bran". It was founded in 1582 in Firenze by a group of well-educated men with the aim of separating flour (the good language) from bran. Hope this will be exaustive enough. Cristina - Italy.
