A caricature, as it says, exaggerates certain features.

This person may have been a struggling artist. Many people are. A lot of them will wait tables or take other jobs unrelated to their art so they can at least have money to live on while they wait for their art to sustain them. Many of them will live in very modest homes, often having roommates to help with the expenses, and most of them will eat really cheap food.

Now, think of which of these things can be exaggerated. She is made to look like she works three menial jobs to scrape up enough money to pay her share of the rent with her four roommates all crammed into two bedrooms, eating nothing but spaghetti or what they can take home at the end of the day from the job one of them holds in a restaurant.
