The difference between an argument, a quarrel, a fight and a feud?

Howdy,

Just like in the topic. What is the difference

1) an argument
2) a quarrel
3) a fight
4) a feud

Some random thoughts: "feud" stands out as always being prolonged (the others can be short-lived). "quarrel", to me, seems more petty and more easily patched up. "fight" has two meanings, one referring to physical confrontation and the other to non-physical.

  • "quarrel", to me, seems more petty and more easily patched up.

  • "fight" has two meanings, one referring to physical confrontation and the other to non-physical. The latter meaning is colloquial, and I would not personally use it in formal English.
