Which is correct and why?1:  Please pay no later then May 1st.2:  Please pay no later than May 1st.

The answer is "than". That's the only correct one when comparatives are involved.
Some native speakers sometimes spell it wrong and write "then". That's strange, since "than" and "then" are usually pronounced differently, but I've heard some people pronounce "than" and 'then" very similarly (maybe that's a feature of some western American accents)
