Is there ever a situation in which you could say 'skip doing something'

Example: We skipped going to the library and went straight to the mall.

Being nit-picky, my issue is with the use of "going to the library" as the object of "skip", though both are OK individually. Perhaps this would be better:

We skipped the visit/trip to the library and went straight to the mall.

But in everyday English, most people would not, I think, s
