Sequence of tenses-is it right in this example?
The sentence in my exam paper was:
"She has worked an assistant for 6 years, but now she went on(work) as a manager."
I think, it`s wrong that went(Past Simple) especially accompanied by now follows has worked(Present Perfect).
Also,
to work or working ?

Does it make sense -using"go on" (as if nothing changed, while in fact ,there`s "but" and she became a manager)?
The correct sententce, in my opinion, should`ve been:
"She has worked as an assistant for 6 years, but now she`s going to work as a manager"
Is something wrong with the question or the way I understand it?

If she went on (to do something else) then she had been working at something else previously.
