Separation of speech
Hello, I was just wondering if this should be one paragraph or whether it works better when split up? Thanks in advance!
Single paragraph:
“I can’t,” I eventually blurted. I quickly realised that this sounded harsh; especially considering how long it had taken him to ask me. So I made up an excuse, “I’m sorry. I’ve got a boyfriend.”
Split up:
“I can’t,” I eventually blurted.
I quickly realised that this sounded harsh; especially considering how long it had taken him to ask me.
So I made up an excuse, “I’m sorry. I’ve got a boyfriend.”
Single paragraph:

I don't think I would start a new paragraph at "So". I don't feel strongly about the other paragraph break. I would change the semicolon before "especially" to a comma.

I would change the semicolon before "especially" to a comma. The comma after "excuse" doesn't seem strong enough to me. You could try a full stop there?
