Hi, I wrote the follwing sentence and just want to know how it scans from the standpoint of natives.
Especially, I want to get your expert opinion on the usage of "in light of" , whether it was appropriate in conveying the intended meaning.

"Considering all the facts and circumstances of the case, the charges are minor given that, with no prior history of indictments or charges, the suspect has posted the material on his personal blog for a simple purpose of sharing with his peers without a clear consciousness of the seriousness of the offence in light of the prevalent utilization of copyrighted music, movies, and photographs on the internet."

I'm a high schooler, not a lawyer, so please take this with a grain of salt. com/in+light+of When someone says "In light of [something]", I feel like the 'something' is new information. I would use 'considering' where you have 'in light of'.
