Sentence correctness

Hi

I have a question on this sentence.

Having stolen the money, the thief was searched by the police.

My opinion

The construction sounds odd to me: The second part of the sentence is in passive voice.

If it were in active voice it would sound better—for example, "...the thief rushed to take the 5 'O clock train".

Please give your comments.
