"The Typical Americanfood and drinks are..." (or is the correct : "The Typical American foodsand drinks are..." ?).
"The United States is the world's biggest consumer of coffee and soft drinks."

a) is correct. The word "food" should be plural in this case. When we speak of "food" in general, it is a non-count noun. (Give me some food, please. I have more food than he does. ) But here, you list many different kinds of foods, so the plural form should be used.
