‘I had a muscle strain, but I kept running away regardless (= despite my difficulty; anyway).’

Despite
Something happens even though something else might prevent it from happening.
‘Despite putting special efforts into her work, Mrs. Roberts got fired.’
[Such efforts could have prevented Mrs. Roberts' dismissal. Nevertheless, she got fired.]

Regardless of
Without being affected by something; despite.
‘He perseveres in speaking English regardless of his limited vocabulary.’
[He perseveres in speaking English in spite of his limited vocabulary.]
