Diploma doesn't fit in this sentence.

(a)what's the difference between "certificate" and "diploma"?
Diploma is a more formal document given to students completing high school or college studies.
Certificate is slightly less formal. It can be given to someone completing a 2-week course work, someone who gave a special speech, or someone who finished auto mechanics basic training course.

(b)what's the difference between "contest" and "competition"?
In a contest, there are specific rules and guidelines to be followed. And winners will be determined. Competition is more of a general term where two or more people or organizations are trying to out perform each other.

(c) when to use "of" and "for"?
For sounds ok in (1) but in (2) it would be better to say 'in an English...'
