Question with parallelism with ellipsis? (not sure)
First of all, this question is from SAT Kaplan book.
1. Nurses and anaesthesiologists are both essential in the operating room, ___________________________________ the surgeon.
a. and the anaesthesiologists would keep the patient sedated while the nurses would assist and support
b. the anaesthesiologists keep the patient sedated and the nurses are assisting and supporting
c. the anaesthesiologists to keep the patient sedated and the nurses to assist and support
d. and the anaesthesiologists keep the patient sedated while the nurses would assist and support
e. the anaesthesiologists keeping the patient sedated while the nurses would assist and support
**the correct answer they say is choice D. Why is A (my first choice) or C (my second choice after process of elimination) wrong?? (I thought that choice c has to do with parallelism with ellipsis)
Thank you~~
Top answer
The best answer is (c). In (d) and (a), "would" is unexplained, and "and" does not join the two statements as well as is done by (c).

teechr"C" may indeed be the best of a bad lot, but it would make the sentence a comma splice!
Um, no, I don't think so ...
Nurses and anaesthesiologists are both essential in the operating room, the anaesthesiologists to keep the patient sedated and the nurses to assist and support the surgeon.
