Question about "from among"
Hi,
I want to ask a question about preposition compound "from among".
1) You may choose a book from among these.
Can I say "You may choose a book among these"?
2) They were elected from among the employees.
Can I say "They were elected from the employees"?
If not, why are two prepositions necessary?
Regards,
Stephen
