Manchester United moved within six points of champions Chelsea with a 2-0 win away to Aston Villa.

Hi i need the meaning of the sentence above

The three points aren't enough to take Pompey out of the bottom three, but do take them within three points of the Baggies

It means that after beating Aston Villa at Aston Villa's ground, Manchester United have collected sufficient points so that they are now only six points behind the leaders Chelsea. "Pompey" is the "nickname" of Portsmouth football club and "the Baggies " of West Bromwich Albion. "The bottom three" means the three clubs at the bottom of the league which are the relegation places.
