Punctuation with quotations?
0 I have some questions regarding punctuation with quotations. Please comment on the following sentences. 02 br

00 Jimmy picked up the wrench and stated, "this is the perfect tool!" (Comma before quoatation, exclemation point inside of quotation) 02 br

00 "This is the perfect tool!", Jimmy stated (notice the exclemation within and the comma outside the quotation marks. 02 br

00 The tool manufacturer states, "This tool should be used by trained persons only.", but I think that is ridiculous! (notice the first word in the quote is capitalized and the quoted sentence is a complete sentence, bu the entire sentence is only completed after the final remark, so is the [period-unquote-comma] use correct?) 02 br

I was of the understanding that, except for ! or ?, all punctuation was placed within the quotation marks whether double or single quotation marks. Help!!!

In American style, the period or comma always goes inside the quotes. Do you have an example that you'd like help with?
