PROVIDE someone WITH something

Dear teacher,

I found the following sentence on the internet:

I am writing to provide formal notice of my resignation from Fielders Pharmacy.(https://www.englishclub.com/business-english/correspondence-resignation.htm).

When there is a reference to a person, shouldn't "provide" be followed by a preposition? For instance,

I am writing to provide you with a formal notice of my resignation from Fielders Pharmacy.
