Progressive participle clauses

Hi,

While I was reading, I ate dinner.

Being reading, I ate dinner.

Can progressive chang into participle clauses like the above? If not, why? It is hard to find an answer.

franking Can the progressive chang e into participle clauses like the above? Not really, because we don't normally put an -ing form after 'being'. However, you can keep "while" and omit "I was": While reading, I ate dinner.

Not really, because we don't normally put an -ing form after 'being'.

However, you can keep "while" and omit "I was":

While reading, I ate dinner.

You can do the same thing with "when", "before," and "after".
