Dear teachers,
Could you possibly tell me which tense -past simple or present perfect - is used after "previously/formerly/in the past"?Sometimes I see the past simple is used and sometimes the present perfect.and this is very confusing to me.
In the past I only sold vegetables to wholesale markets
In the past I have only sold vegetables to wholesale markets
Previously, I helped him a lot
Previously, I have helped him a lot

There is no rule on this. Either form is fine.
