Preposition

Hello All,
I have heard people say "Where are you at?"

Is the "at" in the above question needed, or is it wrong to use it?

I would think that "where" serves the purpose and hence "at" should not be used.

You will often hear "Where are you at?" That's true. It is not, in my opinion, wrong to use it in casual conversation, though even there the simple "Where are you?" is better. It would be wrong to use the version with "at" in a
