Position "AS analyst" or "AS AN analyst"?

Dear friends, I never remember this: should I say "I am applying for a position as analyst" or "I am applying for a position as AN analyst"? May I say also "a position OF analyst"? Thank you!!!

Please don't form a conclusion based only on my opinion.

I think it depends on how the position is conceived by the company in question. Try to use the same form they use in their advertisement. If there are a team of analysts it could be viewed either way. If there is only one such person in the company (eg. Plant Manager), I'd say, "I am applying for the position of Plant Manager." If there are obviously several (eg. warehouseman), I'd say, "I am applying for a job as a warehouseman," or "I'm applying for a position as warehouseman," or "I'm applying for the position of warehouseman." In this case, "the" (definite article) would refer to the specific type of position (as opposed to the position of janitor), and not to the position which is posted on the internet.

I would avoid using "a position of."

I think if the company capitalizes the name of the position, I'd say "the position of Analyst," even if you know you'd be working with a team of five analysts.
